The Bloomfield Bicycle Company has been rolling along since the summer of 1989. We've had marvellous years and many fabulous rides and this year doesn't look like it's going to be any different.
We're all excited about more titanium Litespeed road bikes, the upcoming County Kids of Steel, cleaning up our local trails and marking the Ganaraska Forest Centre. There'll be wwoofers in the garden and when it gets warm more warm showers list and couch surfer tourist folks'll be coming to visit on their bikes.
Until then we'll be hanging on the porch and dreaming about riding: even as you read this. Here's some of the folks you might run into here at the BBC in 2010!

We're aging teenagers with a passion for bikes that has encompassed all aspects of our lives ... our house, our yard, our kitchen, our careers, our vacations, our friends, our fashion choices, our music, our storytelling ... you name it.We've been living here inside our bike shop for 18 years now, and we're pretty darned happy! Bikes have treated us well and we're always thankful for their company.

If we don't do this thing we'd have to get real jobs!

Adam Fleming Journeyman Mechanic.
Holding down the second bench in the workshop is Adam: handy on his bike and off. If he's not wrenching away in the shop you might catch him whipping through the trails at Macaulay Mountain (leading the Monday Morning Ride, too) or speeding along the County roads on his zippy road bike. Adam is a commited cycle commuter and you might glimpse him pulling his Burley Nomad trailer around behind his beautifully restored Bob Jackson. Adam loves a good cup of coffee with cream and if you really want to get on his good side you could pick him up any of the fresh pastries at the Marshamallow Room.

Ali Preece Major Domo and Apprentice Ringleader
Tire pumper, spider hunter, coffee drinker, accessory herder, rental wrangler and cycling enthusiast! A new addition to the crew: we feel like we manifested her! She's been here a few days a week at the shop this summer and we're gonna start making her lead a ride next year. Ali has a great plastic voice and an exhausted giggle ready for any occaision and she drinks coffee with cream and loves chocolate things (like brownies) from the Marshmallow Room. And watch out! She's got a Road Bike and she's zipping all over the County!

Derek Kaye the King of used. The King of Cherry Valley joined the staff here on a permanent basis in August '09. Derek's been an important part of the bike shop for years: his shop [the Fixaco] in Cherry Valley has worked with us to keep all County kids in good quality used bikes. Now Derek wrenches for the BBC on a part-time basis; focusing on creating wonderful used bike experiences for all. With a pun for every occaision, Derek doesn't drink coffee ... but he'd love an exotic tea from the Marshmallow Room.

Peter Murk can be seen (but not often caught!) leading most of our Centuries and a few Thursday night Road Rides. He can really get out there and motor! Peter knows the roads and the mileage in the County off by heart and is always looking for a nice LLLOOONNNNGGG road ride. He loves a good cup of coffee! He is our IT goto guy and has a decent hand with the wrench... he's an important part of the team!

Heidi Cooper can be seen leading our Tuesday Night Easy Road Ride and last year she even went on one of the Centuries. She is another of the truly committed cycle-commuters in the County and loves to ride the back roads in her time off. She's a County girl who knows the stories of all the old buildings and has had been in love with bikes since back in the day when she bought her first high-end hybrid from Pedlar on Avenue Rd. in Toronto. She still rides that bike, twenty-odd years later, but enjoys mountainbiking and titanium speed machines, too. She can fix a flat in no time, adjust your saddle so you're more comfortable and has enough snacks in her camelback for everyone.

Gavin and Rowan and Hazel Woodyard-North are the fun family that leads the Family Fun Ride on Wednesdays in July and August. And yes, your eyes are not deceiving you ... the land train consists of Gavin's cross bike, Rowan's trail-a-bike with Hazel's trailer hooked up to it. |
